SMY ARTS 2nd EDITION

Photo exhibition - 20.03 - 25.03

Following the success of last year’s edition, the students of the Executive Master in Communication and European Policy from IHECS Academy together with SHOW ME YOUROPE are pleased to announce the second edition of SHOW ME YOUROPE ARTS.

This year the contest has been remodelled. We concentrated on photography (professional or amateur) and on one specific topic: the arrival of refugees in Europe.

In total, we received 17 projects that have been evaluated by a jury of 5 people coming from communication, photographic and political fields. The participant that answered the best the criteria set by us and the jury (technicity, creativity, level of effort, link with the theme and added value to project that already exists) has won an award  given during the opening night on the 20th of March at Espace Senghor. The projects have been exhibited until the 25th of March.

Theme

This year theme is: “Together or divided. Europe a safe haven?”. We focus on the arrival of migrant because more than one million migrants and refugees have crossed the European borders in 2015. We want to examine the current issues by giving the opportunity to citizens and moreover, to artists to express and illustrate their personal views, concerns, hopes and fears regarding this crisis.

Objective

The objective of this art project is to show the two faces of the issue. In reaction to the arrival of refugees, European citizens develop two contradictory behaviours. On the one hand, structures of welcoming and integration are put in place in order to help the refugees and on the other hand, a feeling of fear emerges among EU citizens prompted by the rise of populism and extremism in some countries.
